Stagger

At a Glance
A dangerous state that prevents actions and worsens incoming-damage resistances.
GUIDEHow It Works
Crossing a Stagger Threshold on the HP bar causes Stagger, preventing action for the rest of this turn and next turn. Slash, Pierce, and Blunt resistances become Fatal.
Multiple thresholds allow deeper Stagger states. Stagger+ and Stagger++ worsen Attack Type resistances further. On recovery, crossed thresholds disappear and the next threshold becomes relevant.
Focused Encounter enemies have separate Stagger Thresholds for their parts. Staggering one part does not necessarily disable the others. This is also different from breaking a part by depleting its HP.
NOTESCommon Misunderstandings
- Stagger is separate from Panic caused by low SP.
- Effects that move Stagger Thresholds can cause Stagger without relying only on HP damage.
EXAMPLEWorked Example
Crossing a Stagger Threshold
- HP crosses the threshold
- The affected Identity or part cannot act for this turn and next turn
- On recovery, the crossed threshold disappears and the next one takes its place
Part breaks, Forced Stagger, and enemy-specific mechanics are separate cases.
