GLOSSARY / Battle Basics
Speed
Related names and search terms: Haste, Bind
At a Glance
A value affecting action order and the ability to intercept attacks in Focused Encounters.
GUIDEHow It Works
Each turn rolls Speed within the Identity's range. Faster actions normally resolve first, but Clashes and tied Speed also affect order. Check the on-screen arrows.
An ordinary attack Clash is scheduled using the faster participant's Speed; an unopposed attack uses the attacker's Speed. A slow ally Clashing with a fast enemy can therefore act earlier than their own Speed suggests.
Intercepting an attack aimed at another ally requires higher Speed than the enemy. Tied Speed is insufficient. If the attack already targets you, you can Clash regardless of Speed.
Haste increases Speed by its value for 1 turn; Bind decreases it. Compare the resulting Speeds when planning action order and redirection.
NOTESCommon Misunderstandings
- Being faster does not automatically increase Skill Power.
- Equal Speed does not always resolve by deployment order. In Focused Encounters, selection order and whether actions are Clashes or unopposed also matter; check the actual action order.
DETAILSMore Details
Haste and Bind
Both modify Speed for 1 turn, affecting action order and redirection through Speed differences.
Haste raises Speed and Bind lowers it by their displayed values.
Intercepting an attack aimed at another ally requires being faster than the enemy slot. Bind can make that requirement harder to meet.
- Speed alone does not determine tie order or override enemy-specific skill rules.
Reading Speed changes
- Haste: raises your Speed
- Bind: lowers the target's Speed
- Recheck action order and redirection after the change
These effects normally last 1 turn. A specific description can give a different duration or additional conditions.
