Drifting Fox (Canto IV)

3 things to understand first
- Prepare 7 Sinners, aiming for Level 35 and III or higher on your main units. Bring SP recovery and that can beat an area attack rolling up to 20.
- Build SP by beating weak Sloth skills, and stop the multi- Gluttony attacks with stronger skills. Do not prioritize clearing every umbrella above everything else.
- Prepare for -20 SP on turn 3 and the area attack afterward. Use Part-break debuffs, then finish the Fox quickly once overall HP reaches 15% or less.
GUIDEKeys to the fight
Turn numbers indicate a typical sequence. HP loss and Stagger can change the order, so also check the names of the skills the enemy is using.
Find a response based on how you lost
- Low SP suddenly makes es hard to win
- Besides on hit, “” reduces everyone's SP by 20. Build SP while regular skills can still win and save recovery options. Offsetting alone does not prevent the SP loss.
- Statuses increase even when you beat umbrella attacks
- The umbrella's team-wide Count increase is an [After Attack] effect. Winning the to prevent hits does not cancel it. Consider ing or defeating the umbrella before it acts.
- Clearing umbrellas leaves no actions to damage the Fox
- Use spare actions after stopping the Fox's dangerous attacks to damage umbrellas. Area attacks can clear several; otherwise, remove them one at a time. Defeating the Fox also defeats the remaining umbrellas.
- The Head still uses an area attack after breaking
- The story encounter's Part data allows actions after breaking. The Head break's helps, but does not remove all future actions.
Dungeon preparation
Use carried-over resources to prepare SP recovery and area-attack answers
- Prepare 7 Sinners, aiming for Level 35 and III or higher on your main units. Prepare HP, SP, and resources in earlier fights, saving enough for healing and winning against the area attack.
- The Fox is weak to Gloom and Gluttony. Its Head is weak to Slash, and its Body to Pierce. Focusing only Blunt damage is ineffective.
- Old Umbrellas are weak to Sloth. Area attacks can clear several but are optional; you can also remove them one at a time with spare actions.
Turns 1–2
Win easy Clashes and divide actions between dangerous skills and umbrellas
- The Fox's Sloth attacks roll up to 10. Use winning regular skills to build SP, and reserve stronger skills for Gluttony attacks “” and “”.
- Old Umbrella skills are weak, but increase everyone's and Count after attacking. Use spare attacks to or defeat them before they act.
- Defeating umbrellas applies and to the Fox. Use the killer's increased to redirect attacks next turn, freeing more actions to damage the Fox.
Turn 3 in the normal cycle
Plan for -20 SP and focus damage on Parts
- “” reduces everyone's SP by 20 at Combat Start. Offsetting the Defense cannot cancel it. Prepare healing and the skills needed for subsequent es before Combat Start.
- Use this turn's fewer attacks as an opening to focus damage on Parts. Exploit the Head with Slash or the Body with Pierce.
- Breaking the Head applies ; breaking the Body applies 3 . Both remain targetable after breaking, but a break does not guarantee stopping their actions.
Turn 4 / repeating cycle
Beat the area attack and damage the Fox after breaking Parts
- “” rolls up to 20 with 5 . using a strong , and check secondary targets' HP. More umbrellas increase damage on Heads Hit.
- Winning does not cancel the Old Umbrella summon scheduled for next turn. Focus damage on the weakened Fox instead of insisting on keeping the umbrella count at zero.
- At 15% overall HP or less, area attacks and umbrella summons continue every turn. Prioritize finishing the Fox if your damage is sufficient; otherwise, reserve a winning answer to the area attack while wearing it down.
NOTESUnique effects and cautions
Easy-to-miss details
- “”'s -20 SP applies at Combat Start. Offsetting the Defense alone cannot prevent it.
- Umbrella Count increases apply [After Attack]; the cry's summon applies [On Use]. Winning es does not cancel all of either skill's effects.
- The Head and Body can still act after breaking. A Part break does not permanently disable the area attack.
- Luxcavation uses different conditions, including starting with 0 resources and SP. This page covers Canto IV dungeon preparation and the regular encounter's values.
Applied to the Fox when an Old Umbrella is defeated. At Turn End, gain equal to the value × 5.
Turn umbrella cleanup into extra damage on the Fox too. Do not apply Mirror Dungeon removal conditions here.
PARTYRecommended teams and preparation
What to prepare first
- Aim for Level 35 and III or higher on your main units. Prepare SP recovery and an answer to the area attack's maximum roll of 20.
- Build around Slash for the Head or Pierce for the Body, with Gloom and Gluttony damage. Sloth or area attacks help with umbrellas.
SP recovery
Recover from and “”'s SP loss to stabilize subsequent es.
Area-attack Clash specialist
Stop “”'s maximum roll of 20, which is difficult for ordinary skills to beat.
Part and umbrella damage
Reduce umbrella actions, then use Part-break debuffs to finish the Fox.
One ally can fill several roles. First choose a main fighter who can win Clashes, then assign responsibilities for dangerous attacks and special mechanics.
